3 REASONS YOU MIGHT END UP BROKE AFTER COLLEGE (TERTIARY INSTITUTION)
Man looking at his empty leather wallet in office.

Is “life after college” really something to worry about? Sincerely, college is intriguing, all the adventures, memorable experiences and fun could honestly blind anyone from seeing the bigger and more challenging level of life (Life after college). Probably you’re getting a sustainable allowance, you’re doing good and living fine in college and you’ve probably planned your life; Graduate, get a job or start your own business, get married, have a happy and nice family etc. All these are good plans which depicts how positively sensitive you are (not everyone thinks so well ahead), and of course everyone wants a good life (If not the best), this is where the need for financial stability comes in. Achieving all these could be difficult if not impossible for someone who’s broke, those plans could fail because of these three important but overlooked reasons:

NO BACKUP PLAN/PLAN B

You’re probably wondering what it means to have a backup plan. People often say life doesn’t always give us what we want, which means things don’t always work out as planned. This isn’t about being negative minded but what if your plan don’t work out, do you have a plan B to fall back to?
I honestly know of students who are studying and at the same time working ( not a full time job though). They do holiday jobs, wonderful enough, they don’t have to wait for their parents or guardian for allowance. Some of them even spend their holidays learning a handiwork.
You might have planned on graduating and getting a sustainable job (which is good) or setting up your own business, but what if you don’t get one? Or your business can’t sustain you. What else would you do? How else do u plan on earning?, this is where and when you need a plan B. Having a plan B be is like having an insurance, so trust me when is say it’s a necessity.

DISORDERED PRIORITIES

There is a distinctive difference between just doing what is right and doing what is right at the right time. Priorities are like walkway towards achieving goals and carrying out plans. Therefore, doing the needful at the wrong time could definitely jeopardize all your plans or make it all worthless.
I honestly commend the effort of students towards academic success, all the sleepless nights studying for tests and exams, tolerating students and some annoying lecturers. However, holidays aren’t meant for studying, watching movies and having fun alone. Free times like these should be taken advantage of.
You could spend the break learning your parents or guardian business or trade. You could be researching more about your choice of career and taking some little necessary steps like meeting new people who might help and give advises. You could even use that free time to learn a new handiwork which could turn out profitable for you in the nearest future.

NO SAVINGS

Spending it all is a bad habit. I don’t blame you because i was once like that too. Everyone wants to wear good clothes, shoes, wristwatch etc. As good as having all these sounds, they are liabilities. Some people spend lots of money on things like these, even when they have enough. Continuing this way could be disastrous, you could end up broke even when in college and not only after college.
Saving up little from your allowances will not only train your habit of economizing, but will also hasten your progress to success and getting rich. You might be wondering how such little savings will add up but trust it will. Why don’t you do the analysis yourself, calculate how much twenty percent (20%) of your allowance savings will be in a year, two years, and three years. Surely, by the time you’ll be graduating, you’ll definitely have enough to start up that lucrative business idea playing in your head. Even if you’d need more capital you’d be less worried because you’d be having some on ground already. Wealthy people didn’t just become rich in a day, they started somewhere. Financial motivators and multimillionaires like Scot Anderson really encourages saving.
